JPCS “Highly Commended” for green practice

National civil engineering contractor JPCS was Highly Commended for its green credentials by the judges of the Cheshire Business Awards 2012, earlier this month.

JPCS highly commended Cheshire Business Awards 2012The commendation follows a shortlist in the Green Business of the Year category, sponsored by Mersey Forest, for excellence in green practice, strategy and product engineering. The other shortlisted companies in the category were 20:20 Mobile Group Ltd, and the winner of this year’s award, Quinn Glass Ltd.

The winners of the Cheshire Business Awards 2012 were announced at an awards ceremony at Chester Racecourse on 5th October, hosted by ITV presenter Lucy Meacock.

Recognised as a leading environmental brand within the highways, rail, and energy markets, JPCS was highly commended for green business practice, which included a focus on driving innovation with new technology, sustaining ISO 14001 environmental accreditation for over 12 years, the employee-led WasteWise programme, which aims to reduce waste and optimise resources, and building almost 20MWp of energy since  entering the solar market.

JPCS has also delivered a number of projects and innovations that contribute to its acclaimed green credentials, including a footway recycling scheme utilising existing materials on site; the regular use of cold applied road surfacing products which produce less CO2; and building two of the UK’s largest ground mounted solar PV farms using Groundscrew (which is a sustainable alternative to concrete) – one for British Gas at the Toyota plant and also the largest in England to date, a 5MWp project for Anesco.
