When JPCS formed in 1993 slurry was emerging as the solution to much footway maintenance, but it could often be a messy process, and the term ‘slurry’, with it’s farmyard connotations, did not help the public’s perception. JPCS developed the product, changed the name, and promoted a new, cleaner system with extended guarantees. Slurry Seal gave way to Microasphalt Overlays, and footways were rightly prioritised by engineers in a bid to improve pedestrianised areas for the taxpayer.

Thin, quick-fix slurry seals became unpopular – residents would be unhappy at the perception of a cheap alternative to an asphalt overlay. Many engineers were quick to realise that a neighbourhoods pavements were a living thing and very much part of the environment’s infrastructure. They realised that by engaging JPCS, who were offering a full microasphalt overlay ‘system’, they would simultaneously satisfy the residents and receive value for money. JPCS were the first and only footway contractor to offer 5 year free maintenance warranties on their work.
